About TAG/Pond Playhouse

The Theatre Arts Guild is proud to be the country’s oldest community theatre with a record of continuous operation. The Guild has never wavered in its mandate ‘to promote the study, practice and knowledge of the dramatic and musical arts in the city of Halifax and the neighbourhood,’ as its Act of Incorporation states, and remains a true community resource, offering the theatrical experience to both onstage and backstage participants.

Getting There

The Theatre is located at 6 Parkhill Road in Jollimore, just off the Purcell’s Cove Road at the Williams Lake Road intersection (map). Halifax Transit Route 25 GOVERNORS BROOK stops around the corner from the theatre on Purcell's Cove Road.
The outer doors of the Pond Playhouse open approximately forty-five minutes prior to the performance. Come early—we suggest at least thirty minutes prior to the start of the show, but no later than fifteen minutes before show time. Seating of latecomers will be determined by each production. Please don't be late!
Limited parking is available at the Pond Playhouse for our TAG audience. In addition, cars may park (carefully) along the SOUTH side of Parkhill Road (the opposite side of the street from the Pond Playhouse). Cars are not allowed to park on the north side (close to the Pond Playhouse) of the street. Parking is also available on Forward Ave (off Williams Lake) and there is a parking lot at the Frog Pond Trail off Purcell's Cove Rd. Thank you for observing the parking rules.
No. Snacks are available for sale and there is limited bar service in the Theatre Lobby during pre-show and at the interval with selected beers, wines and coolers as well as soft drinks, juice and water. Only bottled water is permitted inside the Theatre.
The closest restaurants are at the Armdale roundabout and along Herring Cove Road.

The Plays

Performances run from musicals to comedies, mysteries and dramas, with an ever-popular pantomime during the Christmas period. The season is supplemented by workshops, readings and an annual members' Variety Night.
TAG’s season runs from September through July, during which five shows are presented.
Different shows have different running times. Typically a show will run 2 to 2 1/2 hours which includes a 15 minute interval (intermission).
No. Cameras, video cameras and any other image or sound-recording devices are all strictly forbidden in the theatre.
Yes, you can meet the cast in the lobby when they have had a chance to change out of costume.
Each of TAG’s plays are for a certain age group. Everybody must purchase a ticket. TAG productions are not suitable for children under the age of 3 years. The live theatre experience, which includes a dark auditorium, bright lights, and sound effects, is too overwhelming for children under the age of 3 years. Babes in arms are not permitted in the theatre, out of courtesy to our audiences and our actors.
