Audition Notice (Halifax): Let Me Go

Production: Let Me Go (A Tale of Robbery and Love) by Nicholas Jupp

Director: Angela Butler | Stage Manager: Esther VanGorder

Let Me Go is a gritty, crime drama set in a neglected East Coast neighbourhood where everyone seems to be chasing one last shot at something better. At the centre is Ryan, an ex-con with ties to organized crime, who runs a worn-down tavern and pulls together a small crew for a risky robbery. As he draws Sonia, Mike, Ashley, and newcomer Emily deeper into the plan, old wounds, fragile loyalties, and dangerous attractions begin to surface. What starts as a carefully plotted job soon becomes something messier and far more human, where desire, fear, and weakness threaten to undo everything.

Roles

  • Ryan (30+): A charismatic leader of a thieving ring, Ryan is sharp, strategic, and deeply resilient. Though involved in crime, he is also a devoted family man whose charm and intelligence command respect in both his home life and criminal circle.
  • Emily (30+): Professionally successful and highly capable, Emily balances motherhood and career under strain at home. She appears confident and warm, yet moments of reflection reveal her vulnerability.
  • Sonia (30+): From a working-class background, Sonia lost her father young and was raised by a resilient mother seeking a fresh start. Her turbulent teens led to gang involvement, school dropout, pregnancy, and difficult relationships, but her fierce determination kept her moving forward. Rough around the edges, she also has a gentle side.
  • Mike (20+): Raised by a single mother struggling with addiction, Mike survived an unstable childhood marked by fetal alcohol syndrome, poverty, an absent father, disrupted schooling, and child services. After leaving school, he took a low-wage job for stability. Despite it all, he is resilient, sharp-witted, and hardworking, meeting hardship with humor and composure.
  • Ashley (20+): Ashley grew up in chaos with a mother struggling with addiction and learned early to rely on her wits and the kindness of neighbours, where she met Mike. Though her schooling was inconsistent, her intelligence helped her survive. As a teen, she turned hardship into opportunity, finding a home for herself and Mike. A series of minimum-wage jobs shaped the resilient cashier she is today.
